James H. Summers — Psychological Horror | Active Projects, Published Work, and Long-Form Potential
I write psychological horror rooted in ordinary life—where trust, authority, routine, care, appetite, and emotional fracture become the true machinery of dread.
My work is built around escalating consequence, intimate character pressure, and grounded environments that lend themselves naturally to publication, premium television, film, and long-form development.
I am seeking literary representation for a growing body of dark, voice-driven work designed to unsettle on the page while sustaining sequel logic, continuity, and adaptation potential across a broader slate.
Available Material
Materials currently available for professional review include:
- Completed manuscripts
- Prestige series bibles (18–25 episode structures)
- Structured episodic breakdowns and character arcs
- Pitch materials and visual tone assets
- Published work alongside active publication-facing projects
The result is work that functions as fiction first, while remaining structurally prepared for expansion, adaptation, and long-term development.
Flagship Properties
First Responder
A nocturnal psychologist feeds on the dying while an EMT begins tracking what she does not yet understand.
Predation, professional masks, emergency-response pressure, and moral fracture drive a story built for premium episodic adaptation and long-form expansion.
Status: Published
Adaptation Material: Completed 18 x 1-hour prestige series bible
Second Chances
Continuing directly where First Responder ends, unfinished business becomes urgent as exposure begins,
pressure widens, and containment starts to fail. The scale increases without losing the intimate psychological core.
Status: Complete manuscript / seeking representation
Adaptation Material: Completed 25 x 1-hour prestige series bible
They Heinous
Systemic horror where treatment, recovery, morality, and punishment stop being easy to separate.
A darker procedural-adjacent property built around professional power, behavioral judgment, and slow-form dread.
Bereft Reality
Captivity, coercive control, and institutional logic converge inside a system that rewards compliance until reality itself begins to feel processed.
Psychological horror built from structure, obedience, and inversion.
Current Projects | Seeking Representation
In addition to the published and adaptation-ready work above, I am actively positioning the following projects for literary representation,
publication, development, and long-range screen opportunity. These titles extend the darker architecture already in motion—psychological horror with continuity,
escalation, and franchise depth.
Second Chances
Status: Complete manuscript / seeking representation
Book Two in the First Responder trilogy. Fully written, with a completed 25-episode prestige series bible,
positioned for publication and adaptation.
Hemoglobin Insecure
Status: Complete manuscript / seeking representation
Book Three in the expanding continuity. Positioned for publication first, with series-bible development intentionally aligned to the acquiring partner’s vision,
strategy, and preferred screen format.
Book Four
Status: In progress / seeking representation
Expands the continuity outward through Claire and the broader consequences of observation, appetite, influence, and deliberate harm.
Built to widen the mythology while preserving the intimate psychological core.

Positioning
My work is built around psychological realism, controlled escalation, and character-driven tension.
It avoids spectacle-first horror in favor of recognition, implication, and emotional pressure.
The catalog supports both standalone titles and a connected structure capable of long-term development across multiple books and screen adaptations.
Continuity and Expansion
Each title is built to stand on its own. At the same time, the broader body of work supports continuity, carryover consequence,
expanding mythology, recurring figures, and multi-title growth.
That gives the material flexibility: viable as contained features or limited series, but equally capable of sustaining multi-season development,
sequel logic, and a larger interconnected psychological-horror ecosystem.
Tone and Visual Identity
Minimal spectacle. Maximum pressure.
The fear in my work emerges through behavior, silence, environment, professional language, emotional fracture, and implication.
The goal is not noise for its own sake. The goal is recognition—the moment a reader or viewer realizes the most dangerous thing in the room
may already sound calm, reasonable, and familiar.
