fading from time and being exposed to sunlight. The computer next to them was equally old, but in all honesty, they probably didn’t need much computing power just to access a camping database anyway.
Looking around the room he found paper reservation receipts sorted in numbered slots. They were organized on a wooden board with vertical compartments. It was a basic setup, and efficient; all the person needed was the number of the site rented, or a last name to lookup in the computer. He moved the mouse and a password screen popped up. He took a few guesses and then started looking around for the password. He checked behind the monitor, on the computer, underneath the phone and calculator, without success.
He was still holding the calculator when a pickup truck with a smiling face slightly higher than the steering wheel drove up. A woman was waving with one hand, sipping on a coffee with the other. Scott returned her smile and waved her on. With a nod, the woman pulled off and he went back to work. Looking through the papers on the wall he did not find Robin’s name. He didn’t remember her last name, only her first, but there were no Robins on the wall.
“Shit! Shit! Shit!” he shouted as he left the building and locked the door.
He would come back tonight when he had more time, he didn’t want to overstay his welcome. Scott drove past the nearby convenience store and into town. His goal was beer, and some fast food, it wasn’t to run into his old friend. Stopping at the local burger joint, he replaced his stockpile.
“Welcome to Blue’s Burgers. How can I make your day better?” the pleasant voice asked.
“Yes. I’ll take two number fours, extra cheese, no tomato, large, with fries for one, and onion rings the other,” he replied.
“Alright. That will be two Big Blue combos, fries, and onion rings, hold the tomatoes. What do you want to drink with those? She said with a smile.
“Keep the drinks. Well, I’ll take one large coffee, if you can do that. Black please,” he found himself speaking as nicely to her as he was being spoken to.
